As you arrive to Tamarin, you may catch glimpses of a kaleidoscope of colourful people, exotic smells and fragments of melodious Creole, as village-life is actually taking place just outside Jacques wooden gate, just a stone throw away from Tamarin Public Beach.
One can easily say that the legends ranking around this surfer’s paradise and Jacque’s place are intimately linked; as it was Jacque’s parents who had the first bed and breakfast on the spot.
Edouard and Ginette Lagane were native Tamarinians who 40 years ago opened their home to the first visitors of Tamarin: the surfers. Following surfer as well as family tradition, their son has enlarged the place subsequently: today Jacque’s place offers 7 colourfully decorated rooms up on the first floor with views over a tiny but lush garden and Tamarin village. Each of the simple but spacious and airy rooms with toilet/ shower offers a double and a single bed, a sitting area, a private terrace, and a refrigerator. All rooms are equipped with fans. Mosquito nets can be provided on request. In the large communal kitchen, meals are prepared by the guests individually and either enjoyed in privacy on their upstairs terrace or at one of the tables in the garden.
Jacque’s place is a lively environment, where people from the entire world mix and mingle with islanders coming down for a go at the waves when surf’s up and Jacque’s friends who often drop by for a chat and may even share a song or two of hot Sega or Seggae music. Jacque is happy to look after his guests and arranges boat tours in and around Tamarin Bay as well as excursions for them.
